NUTCRACKER AUDITIONS!

Southold Dance Theater is looking for performers to be a part of this timeless holiday event!

AUDITION TIMES

1:00 - 1:30 P.M.: Boys Ages 5* - 14 (includes all levels SDT male dancers)
1:15 - 1:45 P.M.: Girls Ages 5*-7 (or current Primary Ballet student)
1:30 - 2:00 P.M.: Girls Ages 8-9 (or current Ballet I student)
1:45 - 2:15 P.M.: Girls Ages 10 – 11 (or current Ballet II student)
2:00 - 2:30 P.M.: Girls Ages 12 -13 (or current Ballet III student)
2:15 - 2:45 P.M.: Girls Ages 13 -14 (or current Ballet IV student)
2:30 - 3:00 P.M.: All Adults Ages 15 + (Men and Women)

*Children must be age 5 by August 31, 2010

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to audition in order to fill out registration forms.   
Please bring a small picture (2” x 3” headshot) and $15 registration fee. 
Dancers should be dressed in dance attire and ballet shoes.

Additional Performance and Audition Information

Southold Dance Theater’s The Nutcracker will be performed on December 11, 12 and 13 at The Morris Performing Arts Center. There may be two casts of younger children. Each cast of younger children will dance throughout the weekend, but not necessarily in all performances, depending on the number of casts.  Children performing on Friday, December 11 will be required to miss a day of school.

Age at Time of Audition
Please be aware that the age groups posted for auditions are based on the age of the dancer on the day of auditions, NOT upon his/her age at the time of the performance. To audition for Southold’s The Nutcracker, a child must have been born on or prior to August 31, 2005.

Audition Check-In and Registration
Auditions take place at the Southold Dance Theater Studios located at 914 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN  46628. Registration is done the day of auditions.
Please be aware that you should be at the studio at least 15 minutes prior to the time period slotted for your child's age group. Students who arrive after their age group is called will not be allowed to audition.

What Happens At The Audition?
Each group audition is a short, age-appropriate skills demonstration. Students will be taught combinations and asked to repeat them. Once an audition class has begun, late arrivals will not be admitted. In order for the artistic staff to fairly evaluate all children, it is important that your child stay for the duration of the audition class. You are welcome to stay at the studio during your child's audition class, but you will not be able to view your child's audition.

Audition Attire
Either ballet attire (leotard, tights, ballet shoes) or other dance/exercise apparel is fine. Please bring socks for your child if he/she does not have ballet shoes. If possible, please have hair pulled back in a bun/pony tail or otherwise off your child's face.

Audition Results
Audition results will be mailed to each participant.  Letters should arrive the week following your audition.

Fees
If your child auditions successfully and you choose to have him/her participate in The Nutcracker, there will be an additional non-refundable production fee of $125 (additional fees may apply for non Southold students). This fee covers cast member attendance at rehearsals, costuming, make-up and other performance incidentals. The costume itself will remain the property of the ballet company. You will be expected to pay for your child's tights, leotard, shoes, and hair products.
Special Note: Production fee is waved for adult performers.

Rehearsals
Each role will be required to attend weekly rehearsals.  Rehearsal time and days will vary based on the role.  In addition, added Saturday rehearsals will be required as the performance date gets closer.  Students are allowed to miss two rehearsals before they are replaced.  Dress rehearsals and theatre rehearsals are mandatory.
